Wage rises could result in price spikes, employers warn

17 Aug 2021

Employers have warned that businesses may be required to raise prices as a result of wage hikes.

A survey carried out by job board Caterer.com revealed that many employers have experienced staff shortages since coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown restrictions eased.

The survey also found that 93,000 EU workers have lost their jobs in the hospitality sector due to Brexit.

According to the survey, 90% of UK hospitality businesses are now paying at least the National Living Wage (NLW). Caterer.com's research also revealed that employers in the hospitality sector have revamped branding and employee benefits in order to attract jobseekers.

Kathy Dyball, Director at Caterer.com, commented: 'Talented EU workers remain an essential part of the sector's success and we join the industry in calling for the government to urgently make it easier for hospitality talent to return to the UK.'
