Research suggests many UK small business owners 'will work on Christmas Day'

24 Dec 2018

Research carried out by Vistaprint has suggested that more than half of UK small business owners intend to work on Christmas Day.

According to the research, the biggest challenge faced by small businesses is to 'stand out above increased competition' during the festive period.

The report revealed that over three quarters of UK small business owners will undertake some work over the festive period. More than two thirds of business owners expect to work six hours or more on Christmas Day; 15% intend to treat it as a normal working day; and a further 18% plan to work more than ten consecutive hours.

Meanwhile, 20% of business owners stated that they will be checking their emails on Christmas Day, and 17% will use the day to catch up on paperwork.

Furthermore, almost two thirds intend to go back to work on Boxing Day or New Year's Day.

Commenting on the findings, Simon Braier, Director of Customer Strategy at Vistaprint, said: 'Small business owners put their hearts and souls into their businesses, and naturally at key times of the year this pressure increases. But Christmas is also an important time for family, and we'd like to encourage small business owners whenever possible to take a well-deserved rest during this period.'
